Migraines

People who suffer from migraines, whether occasional or chronic, know this. These intense and debilitating headaches cannot be eradicated, but it is possible to relieve them and reduce their frequency and intensity. At Humani Medical Clinic, we offer a comprehensive assessment and review your current treatments and all the options available to you.

Migraines

What are migraines?

Migraines are a type of headache caused by a genetic disorder that affects about 8% of the population, mostly women. They are characterized by a throbbing pain (which produces a “heartbeat” effect), usually located on one side of the skull. The intensity of these headaches can sometimes cause nausea and vomiting. During a migraine episode, which can last from 4 to 72 hours, sensitivity to light and sound is increased: these stimuli influence the length and intensity of the headache. Although you need to have a predisposition to suffer from migraines, there are a number of factors that can trigger them. These include alcohol consumption and certain foods and drinks (coffee, processed meats, fermented foods, etc.), changes in temperature or atmospheric pressure, physical exertion, lack of sleep, stress, and anxiety. To be considered a migraine sufferer, you must experience at least four episodes per month, with at least one episode per week, and the headaches must be severe enough to prevent you from carrying out your normal daily activities. etc.), changes in temperature or atmospheric pressure, physical exertion, lack of sleep, stress and anxiety, etc.

To be considered a migraine sufferer, headaches must be recurrent. They can occur sporadically or chronically.

Le Botox : une possible solution pour les migraines chroniques réfractaires

Botox: a possible solution for chronic refractory migraines

There is no cure for migraines. However, there are medications to relieve them (migraine medications) and treatments to reduce the frequency, duration, and intensity of chronic migraines. Among these options is Botox treatment, which has been available for several years to people suffering from chronic refractory migraines. These are migraines that occur at least 15 days per month and have not responded to other preventive treatments tried previously.

Treatment details

  • Treatment: It consists of a series of 31 to 39 microinjections at specific locations (between the eyes, upper forehead, temples, back of the head, upper neck, and trapezius muscles).
  • Frequency: To ensure success, treatment may be repeated every 12 weeks, as needed.
  • Expected results: After a few months, the frequency, intensity, and duration of migraine episodes should decrease significantly (up to 50%).

For an innovative migraine treatment

Before starting Botox treatment, it is first necessary to determine your eligibility. If your neurologist has not already done so, one of our doctors will assess your migraine condition (number, duration, and intensity of episodes, previous treatments tried, location of pain) before starting the injections. If you meet the eligibility criteria, you will be offered a treatment schedule and close follow-up to ensure results that will improve your quality of life.
