Sweating Problems
Although sweating is a natural phenomenon and even essential to the proper functioning of the body, it can sometimes be excessive. Depending on the extent and cause of this problem, known as hyperhidrosis, there are ways to stop it or at least reduce it. These include Botox injections under the armpits, a treatment offered at the Humani Private Medical Clinic in Rosemère.

What is the purpose of sweating?
Sweating plays an important role: it regulates body temperature and keeps it around 37 degrees while expelling certain organic waste products. If this phenomenon is continuous, we sweat more in hot weather or when our body temperature tends to rise, such as during intense physical activity or when fighting an infection. Even during these episodes of more intense sweating, you should not normally lose abnormal amounts of sweat. When this happens, i.e., when sweat production (and therefore expulsion) exceeds what is necessary to balance body temperature, this is referred to as hyperhidrosis.
It is a problem that can have an impact on social life, work, and self-esteem.
The two types of hyperhidrosis
Primary (focal) hyperhidrosis: Although it is usually linked to a disorder of the central nervous system that affects the neurotransmitters responsible for stimulating the sweat glands, it is often difficult, if not impossible, to find the direct cause. It is often localized to a specific area (armpits, palms of the hands, soles of the feet, face, etc.).
Secondary (generalized) hyperhidrosis: In this case, the entire body may be affected. This type of hyperhidrosis is usually caused by another condition (medication, obesity, menopause, damage to the nervous system, endocrine problems, etc.). It is therefore possible to stop it by treating the underlying cause.

Botox injections: a treatment option for hyperhidrosis
To treat sweating problems related to primary hyperhidrosis, several treatments are available to those who suffer from it: topical treatments (powerful antiperspirants, creams), surgery, and Botox treatment. The latter option, offered by your Rosemère-Laval doctors, involves injecting very small doses of botulinum toxin type A under the skin of each armpit. The toxin's paralyzing effect prevents neurotransmitters from sending signals to the sweat glands, which reduces sweating.
A quick and effective solution to sweating problems
If you have sweating problems, don't hesitate to consult one of our doctors, even if it may be embarrassing. They will first assess your situation (type of hyperhidrosis, presence of other conditions that may explain the problem, etc.). Then, if appropriate, they will administer the injections, a procedure that usually takes between 5 and 10 minutes per armpit. The effects of the treatment are normally felt after one or two weeks and last for up to 12 m
