ADHD
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) can cause problems in everyday life. However, its effects can be controlled with specialized support and/or appropriate medication. To access this type of support, whether in school or elsewhere, a clear diagnosis is often necessary.
At Humani, your private medical clinic in Rosemère, we offer this service for children and adults.

ADHD: a disorder that affects children and adults
ADHD is a common disorder characterized by attention problems, impulsivity, and, in some cases, hyperactivity. If it develops and manifests itself in childhood, it usually persists throughout life. That's why, if left untreated, it can affect the lives of adults as much as it does children. Attention deficit, with or without hyperactivity, can affect learning and task completion, which can have consequences for how people function at school, at work, and at home.
Some common symptoms :
- Restlessness and a tendency to move (fidget) all the time;
- Difficulty concentrating and/or staying focused on a single task for long periods of time;
- Difficulty organizing thoughts and time;
- A tendency not to finish what is started;
- Impulsivity in decision-making and reactions to situations;
- Frequent mood swings;
- Poor stress management;
- Low tolerance for frustration;
- Sometimes difficult interpersonal relationships.

Treatment and assessment
Appropriate medical, neuropsychological, or social follow-up, sometimes accompanied by medication, particularly psychostimulants (Ritalin, Concerta, etc.), can help alleviate the symptoms of ADHD. Effective management of the disorder generally improves concentration and organizational skills.
To access resources and support services at school or elsewhere, and/or obtain a prescription for medication, you must first undergo an evaluation by a doctor or psychologist. At the end of a clear protocol including questionnaires (about general abilities, attitudes at school, work, and home, and family history) and psychometric tests, a diagnosis can be made.
For a comprehensive ADHD assessment
We offer the residents of Rosemère and the surrounding area a three-appointment ADHD diagnostic service for children, adolescents, and adults. The first appointment, conducted by a medical team, uses tests and questionnaires to establish a diagnosis. The subsequent appointments, which are usually scheduled close together, serve to confirm the assessment and establish an action plan. The doctor will then be able to recommend medication or other resources and evaluate their effectiveness.
